just bought a 2011 135 (manufactured in 2010)
When did engine change from n54 to n55? My engine cover says "turbo twin power". Does that mean it is 'twin turbo" or something else? I've not had a chance to poke around much under the hood.
thnx d

ahhhhhh..........."twin scroll"! Thanks! I was worried that I had somehow had a n54. I previously bought a 2002 e46 M3 and then found it actually the "2001"egine with the bad main bearing which eventually failed out of warranty! Now my replacement engine blew too. I bought it used online.
It is silver , 6MT, supposed to have M sport package, and lux pkg. The seats suck! I am going to put my race seats in from my other car. It looks like the definition of the options changes once in a while. It had 4,500 miles on it, basicallly a demo. So I am not 100% sure of everything. I would rather have had a 1M in orange but they are sold out and they say that it will only be made 1 year. who knows. they might change their minds. Anyway, I still need to do some suspension work to get some front camber and some bigger tires in there. The car seems fast though but i have not been able to it on a track yet. The RFT's will probably disintegrate! I want to test fit some of my e46 wheels today. First wheels/tires, then suspension, then intake, then software, maybe downpipe. Oh yeah, my e46 has headers and a 3" exhaust. I can barely hear the 135. I only have 150 miles on it and I am starting to adjust to it. It needs an exhaust! If I only had money! Need to sell the broken e46! My sig shows the rear of 135 and my e46 is in the background. thanks d

Congrats on the new addition she looks good, yes Twin Power Turbo means N55 single turbo. I just love the sound it makes along with the 300 horses. If you had the M Package then you should have a black headliner(Anthracite) and M on the door sills.

Hey, You really checked that out before buying. Always do the homework before the test. By the way, I really like my twin turbo, shadow trim and "M sport seats".

You are correct. Also, chrome trim instead of black shadow trim is a give away for a non-M. I'm pretty sure all non-M packages did not have a black headliner, shadow trim. I don't think even cars with black leather seats/interior (non-M package) had a black headliner. I believe they were grey trim/headliner. Correct me if I'm incorrect.

definitely doesn't have the m-sport package... if there is chrome around the side windows... then it doesn't even have the regular sport package either, which sucks... but either way, great engine... lots of potential... already showing more impressive gains than the n54.

Congrats! No M or Sport pack on your car, but don't worry. Besides the seats, everything else is cosmetic and can be had for a reasonable price. I too have a non-Msport car, and I love it. If you want to look at the bright side, it is lighter! But yes, the sport seats are much better than the non-sport ones, and they are about the only thing I wish I had from the sport package.

sounds like you are kinda snotty. thanks for that. i researched what i could find and it seems that the "packakges" varied and changed occasioanlly. I also trusted the dealer info too. It doesn't matter that much because the suspension would need to be upgraded anyway.

Don't worry, they all come with the same suspension regardless of package unless the performance suspension is ordered; m-sport pack or sport pack do not affect suspension setting. As i said, the only thing you are missing out on are the seats...which it seems like you'll be changing anyways!

It can be hard to do appropriate research not because of un-informed buyers, but more often due to ignorant sales people! For example, when I bought mine used, all the current information said that it was BSM colour, when in actuality, it is Jet Black. The original window sticker and VIN information verified it as JB....and I bought it from a large BMW dealership in Minneapolis. Someone just guessed that it was Black Sapphire Metallic and not Jet Black.

I think the regular Sport Package came with shadowline trim, but I'm not sure about the headliner. His 5-spoke wheels are another indicator that its not the M-Sport. Besides, regular, Sport or M-Sport, they all have the same 300hp engine, same suspension and the same monster brakes. I'm sure he'll survive |

here is the info i got from dealer. The M sport suspension is listed as 0704. There is an SP onthe struts. Also some sensor on the LCA. Much different from e46 M3.

....lets see: you didn't know if you bought a n54 or n55 engine. A quick hood pop or carfax would have told you. As to what the M package included, a quick online check would have showed what your BMW M package should have. If something is missing, you don't have the package. I'm just teaching you to fish. This should be done with any used car you may be buying.....no snob here. You are the one saying you didn't want a n54, but didn't even know if you in fact bought one.

There are TWO M-sport options. Here is a repost from an old post of mine...
BMW M-sport option code 840 top speed limiter… http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...=top+speed+840 When ordering a new 2010 135i there are TWO sport options. (I think this was also the way it was for all model years: '08-'11's) #1). ZMP option code: $1,300 (Miltary Sales price) (can not be ordered with ZSP!) which includes 2MR 18" double spoke wheels #261M 337 M-sport pack, door strips in M, shifter & hand brake all M 481 Sport seats 710 M-sport steering wheel 760 Shadowline trim 775 Anthracite headliner (black) 840 Increased top speed limiter the "other" sport option is this one: ZSP ZSP Sport option $1,100 (mil price) 481 Sport seats 710 M-sport steering wheel 760 Shadowline trim 840 Increased top speed limiter So... for a measly $200 you get the nice Anthracite headliner, M-double spoke wheels (same size as standard car though), M door sills and shifter/brake. I went with the ZMP on my car. I order my car thru Military Sales program. I think the US options were a $200 each more. ? I think the ZMP option is more rare from what I have seen over here. I had to special order my car the way I wanted it. Good Luck, PS: IF you do not order the M-sport or sport options (and hence option #840) your car is limited to 210 kph (135mph). IF you HAVE option #840 your car is also limited but to 250 kph (155mph)! Hope this help you out. |
