NEED Help!
Hi! guys
I am planing to move to seattle in two months. I really don't want to drive my car for 3000 miles. I wonder if I can order a car in my area, and let the dealer set the pick up point in seattle?? Thanks ! |

Why don't you look for a dealer in Seattle and buy it from them and have it waiting for you when you get settled?
Unless there is a trade involved... Are you looking to save a few bucks? Are the tax rates different in NY vs WA? I'm not familiar with WA, do they have sales tax on cars? Or do they have to pay property taxes each year? Either way, I am sure there is a way. I would work out a deal with a Seattle dealership (Have them match the deal you make in NY) Let us know how it goes, miiipilot

sales tax in NY is 8.25%
Have you gone to your dealer yet? You never know they might be able to work something out for you |

Yes, I am trying to trade in my 2011 135i in new york and order a M3 then pick it up in Seattle,WA. I want to save some tax and shipment expense by doing this. The dealer give me 32000 for the trade of my 135i which the MSRP is 39625 when I pick it up.BTW,my car got 15000miles now. I don't think somebody would buy my car for 34000 now. It is just hard to sell it privately now. So I wonder if it will work to trade it in New york and pick up in seattle. I will go to the dealer to figure it out in a few days. |

Dealers swap allocations and cars all the time. My girlfriend's brother just got a semi-special edition pickup truck, didn't like the price the dealer was giving him, so he went to another dealer and asked for the exact same truck. The second dealer ended up getting him the exact same car that was allocated to the first dealership, they just swapped allocations and the truck was shipped to the second place instead.
Washington state has a 0.3% (wtf man!?!? unless they have ridiculous other fees) use and sales tax on new cars, versus NY's 8.25% as stated by BrokenVert. I'd call up a dealership in washington, get them to trade the allocation, and get it shipped up there and BUY IT THERE MAN!!

in that case, definitely try to order in NY and have it shipped to WA. when I got my car, i originally placed an order, but time constraints forced me to look more local. a very local dealer got a car originally for a dealership in western PA and had it shipped right here to me, free of charge to me, in exchange for one of their allocations. Most dealerships probably don't have much problem doing things like this..

In my case, because I have already got a fair trade in quote(they value it as $32000) from my local dealer which means I get around 34500back(include tax benefit). I really don't think I can get a better deal if I sell it privately. BTW,sticker price of my car is $39625. cars running15000miles now. It really make sense for me to trade in and pick up in seattle,wa. I can regist the new car as NY vehicle first ,then register it as Wa vehicle. By doing that ,I can just pay the new york sales tax only which is around 1% lower. |
