1M Fair Deal in California?
What is currently a fair deal for a 1M in California? MSRP? I'm talking to my dealer about putting down a deposit, but we haven't settled on a price. What is fair? I'm in Northern California but could easily go anywhere in California to pick it up.
Please let me know, and feel free to PM if you want your deal to remain confidential, etc. Thanks

I'd say MSRP is fair at this point. Especially reading that the 1///M is one and done.
I'm surprised, after reading that, more dealers aren't jacking up the mark-ups. miiipilot

If you can get the car out there for msrp you did well. It depends when your allocation would be but if you are trying to get one sooner than later your probably going to be looking at markups of 2500+ in that market.

I spoken to some dealers in Cali and some are selling their allocations for $5000 markup. Most allocations are spoken for don't know if they are at MSRP or not, but if you can get it at MSRP jump on it. Make sure you can get an allocation, I believe some of these dealers just want your deposit. There can be 10 deposits for only just two allocation. Putting a deposit does not guarantee the car.

I noticed many dealers in So Cal are speccing the cars for themselves and trying to sell them out of the showroom when they arrive (1st come 1st serve no waiting list Ipad style). Thats part of the reason why allocations are harder to come by right now.
If you wait and the demand doesnt work in the dealerships favor you can buy one of those at or below MSRP. Depending how demand for off the lot cars turns out. I wouldnt be surprised if some of these are heavily discounted at years end because they just sat in the showroom. Its a gamble though. |

Back when i was calling around no one said MSRP like they used to early before some dealers even heard if they were getting 1M. Last i heard some where going 10K over and some just 5K.
if you find MSRP JUMP ON IT. I wouldn't expect any under. At least thats what it seems for SoCal. Why not try out of state and getting it shipped or road tripping.. if you have the time |

MSRP is a fair deal as defined by BMW. Anything over, and according to BMW, you're overpaying. But how badly do you want the car? It's all about risk vs reward. Is it worth trying to save $2500-5000 and risk not getting one?

Of the three cars I know of delivered in the first week of delivery (May 7-14) here in Orange county CA, I believe they were all MSRP or below.

Looks like dealers on truecar are letting them go for under MSRP now which most likely means you can place an order and get on the list, but who knows when you will get one.

I'd be very interested in hearing if the TrueCar data pans out. These prices seem way out of wack for what others are seeing in California (especially, Southern California). |

BMW in Germany gave it a MSRP and that is what it should sell for including the dealership profit. Asking for more money and they are ripping the customer off and gouging their customers. |

As an owner of one of the few pristine low-mileage, unmolested S54 M Roadsters left in the world, I can testify that low production volumes don't always translate into desirability. I suspect that values will fall to reasonable levels as soon as the next "auto du jour" appears. In six months, you'll start to see these babies pop up on the used market and I'll betcha you won't be seeing any of the pricing jackassery that's going on now.
