Seems like there is a license plate holder out there, which mounts to the front tow mount. I'd find and use that, if I were going to have a front plate.

Wait, you'll be using out of state (FL) plates in Iowa? The local constabulary won't require a front plate for another state, that's simply a law for their state and cars registered in their state. I've lived in (and licensed cars in) CA and TX, both of which "require" front plates and I've never run one.
Unless you make a habit of driving near or over the alcohol limit, transport illegal substances or just have never stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, skip the front plate. |

That's my first choice, too. My 135 had a front license plate holder in the trunk. No way I am screwing that into anything. *If* I get a ticket, and *if* it costs a bunch of money, and *if* they throw it out if I mount a front plate, then I might consider it, but I'll get that tow hook thing.
Until then, I'm not mounting anything until someone tries to force the issue.

Nope, if you have out of state plates, they won't force you to run a front plate. Of course since you'll have out of state plates, you'll be more likely to get pulled over anyway.

If you do get pulled over for that very reason, they will usually just serve you a notice to get it fixed in 30 days. No big deal really. Second offense will usually net you a small fine/ticket, that's the one you want to avoid, and the tow-hook mount is an easy fix to this without having to drill holes in your Bimmer. Or (CAUTION, SHITTY ADVICE AHEAD): If you have the tow hook plate and get served the 30 day "fix-it" notice, one thing you can do is screw on the plate for the time being, take it in, show them the plate, get the ticket written off, then take the plate right back off and replace your tow-hook cover. This can be risky if you got the ticket in the area immediate to where you live. Also, if you get served the 30-day notice in an area far away from you local jurisdiction, they just have you sign a paper and send it in, indicating that you did the work. In this latter case, just sign it and forget it (and maybe avoid driving in that county for a while). On a side note @RedBread: Quote:

Registration Renewal in Iowa
If you are a current resident who needs to renew an expired vehicle registration, please see DMV.org's section on Registration Renewals for more information regarding this procedure. First-Time Registration You will need to complete the registration process for the first time if you have: Purchased a new vehicle Moved to the state on a permanent basis Changed ownership on a vehicle, either by giving or receiving a gift State law requires that drivers update their vehicle registration information within 30 days. This is necessary even if you are a new resident with a vehicle registration that is still currently valid in another state Found the above information under the DMV website in Iowa. 1st page...doesn't say it is a requirement for part-time residents. Only permanent residents...we have a similar Law in Illinois. |

Another one. More expensive, and sturdier, than others.

That was my first mod
....2 days after delivery...
Has worked fine on Nürburgring, Hockenheimring and the autobahn blasting along at 160...mph. Homemade, 2-3 hours to figure out angles and how to make it happen, then trip to hardware store and cutting stuff up...then assembly. About $10. |
