Viezu Tuning: 125i

Thanks to BMR Autowerkes, I've got the opportunity to be arguably the first Viezu-tuned 1 Series here.

Stu from BMR (bmroxm5) contacted me to see if we could organise some solid dyno figures to evaluate the N52 125i tune.

According to Viezu's figures, it's adding around 14kw of powers and 28Nm of torques.

So I tee'd up a dyno run with Pete at Advan who was more than accommodating (thank you again Pete!). The car went in with Performance Exhaust on and reached a not too bad figure of 128.6kw atw. There was some friendly betting on around the workshop (I thought around 129kw so wasn't too far off).

Considering Stu's E92 325i had previously reached 120kw atw, I was pleased with Christine's results as both cars have the same power output at the fly, mine is AT and Stu's was MT. How much difference there can be attributed to PE is anyone's guess.

Hopefully Stu is receiving the tune In the next few days. Stu has explained the tune is done live, with the files sent over to the Viezu techs, sent back and then uploaded to the car.

I'm very curious to see how accurate Viezu's figures are and if the tune with PE would help.

Stay 'tuned'......

PS: it is my understanding that BMR have now become an official supplier of Viezu tunes. Please correct me Stu if this is not the case!

Unfortunately not, however the NA is obviously a little more resistant to ambient temps/humidity.

Thanks for the intro Alex,

Yes we're excited to do some beta testing of the tune with your car.

Even though there isn't as much to be gained on the NA cars, as we all know the 125i is detuned from factory so the goal over the next few months would be to develop a tune that gives 130i performance or close to that.

Steve, we'll investigate loading the 130i maps onto the car.

The end result will hopefully see a pretty strong performing 125i.

got much thoughts on the tune before and after? how it felt?
felt stronger low, stronger high? etc..?

(i know i'm going to get shot down by the power/fact nazis.. (its very harsh around here) but in the end all I care about is how much a bigger smile it puts on your daily drive?)

edit: oh oops u haven't got it yet :P ignore till u get it :P

Every effort will be made to ensure a consistent comparison and accurate figures.

I don't see why we can't dyno the car again the day we flash the car so we'll try and get that done too.

Nope, Aus spec 125i has a 3L engine, the same N52B30 as found in the 130i.

The E92 325i has a 2.5L engine, an N52B25.

Both are rated at 160kw. 125i is rated at 270nm vs the 325i with 250nm.

Yep spot on.

E92 325i : 2.5L, 160kw fly
E82 125i : 3.0L, 160kw fly

To be honest I'm probably looking forward to the torque boost more. 28Nm is a great jump, and I'm hoping the delivery will be earlier.

That being said, I'm confident we won't reach 130i figures until the manifold gets switched up. If ad when that is done, we should be able to meet and possibly exceed the hatch's stats.

Why would you need to swap intake manifolds?

I assume this is to swap from a 2 stage to a 3 stage intake?

This is correct. The key mechanical difference between the 130i engine and the 125i engine is the 2 and 3 stage intake manifolds.

Alex, your 125i already has the same 3 stage DISA manifold intake as the 130i i.e. part #11617559523 (+ the 2 actuators). The 128i does not share this same mainfold and hence why the americans keep talking about swapping manifolds.

In any case, what the DISA manifold does isnt to make power itself, rather it allows for the volume of air at each valve opening to be equal, so that the engine can create consistant power at high rpms.
