I'm not familiar with the BMW rack, but I would imagine it has the same attachments, there's not much flexibility there. After mine was dialed in and centered properly I could take it on or off in <10 minutes. There's a total of 4 hex screws (one on each corner), then you use the key to secure the lock cover over the mounting points to prevent it from being stolen.

Also IIRC BMW doesn't offer an Aero version, whereas the Thule rack has lower profile load bars.

Not too terrible, after awhile you forget it's there, and the radio at normal volume pretty much takes care of it.
