Can someone help me identify parts?

Hi guys,

I have some cosmetic damage in the engine bay from my car's previous owner's accident and I've managed to identify most everything and order replacements, however I'm currently stuck on two items.

One is a little hose, the broken white one in the attached picture. I'm pretty sure the stock cable isn't white, judging by pics I've found online. If you can at least narrow down the system/component that this hose connects, that would help greatly. If you know the part number, well then that's fantastic =)

Second is related to the gas pressurized spring that holds the hood. On either side of the spring there are ball pins, and what I need are the little plastic things that the ball pins insert into, which I can't seem to find in the diagrams. I don't have a pic of these things but I will snap one tonight or tomorrow and add it here.

For reference on the hood (I need the plastic things that items 3 and 4 insert into):

Thanks a lot guys,
Fed

Well, I've managed to get hold of photos of the gas pressurized springs and it seems the little plastic parts that the hood ball pins connect into are part of the springs and therefore the whole spring has to be replaced.

As for the white hose above, I've still had no luck. Some of the DIY guides mention that the hose that it connects to is a vacuum hose but that's not much to go on =(

From the looks of that engine bay I would hate to see what the rest of the car looks like!

Ironically, it looks much better =) That was after a long road trip.

I'd wash the engine bay but 1) right now I'm replacing so many parts that it doesn't make much sense (in fact the factory airbox is already gone) and 2) I don't yet have a good feeling of what areas I can't get wet.

That white hose is just a simple black silicone hose you can get at any autoparts store. It connects to a vacuum line and the car will drive like crap, if left disconnected. Just buy a hose and cut it to size.

Thanks for the advice but a) I'm trying to make my repairs as much a learning process as possible, so I want to know what I'm replacing and what it does b) the car does not drive like crap and moreover I haven't noticed a difference between now and when the hose was intact and c) the current cable apparently ripped and was therefore possibly not strong enough, so buying a generic one may not work all too well.

Thanks ken but I'm fully aware of where it's supposed to go, that's why I placed it right there for the photo. The question is what is the dang part number :/

I found this:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...56&hg=34&fg=27

And I believe pipe 9 looks like the pipe that the white hose is supposed to connect to, but the diagram does not show anything connecting to it unfortunately.

Sorry, misunderstood. Rodzilla is still correct. Juts go to the Auto store and purchase a vacuum line and use zip ties to secure. GL.
