Google nav works now over Bluetooth
I used the google navigation on my android phone today and to my surprise all the directions came in loud and clear through my cars speakers instead of the actual phone. What a nice surprise, must have been part of the latest google map update for android. Makes using google nav that much better now that it uses your cars speakers through Bluetooth. !!

Tried it again tonight and this time I could only get it to work on the cell phone!
When it worked earlier on the car speakers I was also on a cell phone call at the same time. It must have been some type of glitch and also routed the navi directions to the car speakers along with the voice call... Damn... if you can figure out a way to make your nav work on the car speakers through bluetooth let me know,

Yeah if you're on a call and happened to have a navigation session going the nav will chime in over the bluetooth. Otherwise it will come in over the phone's loudspeaker.
I happened to try a Windows Phone 7 handset the other day and it does play the navigation over the bluetooth all the time. I don't have iDrive on my car so this was pretty cool. It also allowed me to hold down the Windows button which works like the home key on iPhone. It activates the Windows TellMe which is their Siri. Works great too for sending text and doing searches. So it's possible it's just up to the bluetooth connection method and if the app can tell the car it's needs to activate bluetooth audio. -T |

On a related question, is it possible to play music over the bluetooth or do you have to connect the phone to the car? The aftermarket stereo in my WRX can play anything through the bluetooth.

Kinda blows that even the HK non-iDrive sound system does not support Bluetooth Audio (A2DP). My other car, a 2011 GTI has this and it dosent have nav...just saying. |
