OpenFlash OBD Tool - Vishnu & Co.
Hi Guys,
make sure to check the N52 section of the e90post forum. Shiv @ Vishnu is gauging interest in developing this tool for our engines. He is looking for ECU's to read. If anyone is in the bay area, send him a PM. For those that don't know about the tool, read the N54 section in E90 post.
It has potential to be the best tool out there. Just want to make sure we throw support into vendors who develop stuff for us. Please show your support if you're interested. |

Anyone throwing up some N52 love has my attention! I've mostly been lurking the main thread over on e90post.
I still don't fully understand how this would compare to an off-the-shelf tune like AA or Evolve. I wouldn't know the first thing to do if I purchased that tablet. It almost seems like you could run an similar tune to Evolve or AA and customize it further, does that seem right? |

If it shows gains above AA non disa manifold, then i'd be interested. I can't find a manifold and i've given up on my sources so i'm thinking about saying fug it.

I have an Evolve tune and Evolve cable with this functionality, shrug.
You shouldn't give up, it is one of the most dramatic mods to the car.

Bavarian Auto Recycling right? Yeahhh I made the mistake of ordering mine through them too. I asked about availability and they told me they had a few in stock. Waited a week, nothing. Waited 3 weeks, gave them a call. Long story short, they never had the part in stock, and even though the part "might become available soon", I told them I'd like a refund. Waited a week, no refund. Waited 2 MORE weeks, called them up and bullshitted that I was interested in another part, but wouldn't commit unless I received my refund. I finally got my refund, after over 6 weeks since initially calling, and haven't called back. This isn't a buyer beware tip, this is a run-like-the-fucking-plague tip. Never again. Honestly, with the amount of time wasted, I just bought the 330i conversion pack from getBMWparts.com. Ordered it 5 days ago, came yesterday. 10/10 customer service, would do again. |

This looks like pretty slick tech, and the price is certainly right, but honestly it looks real easy to screw up for the average user. I'd reckon VERY few consumers would be even halfway competent with the functionality offered.
RE: the manifold hunt, there are plenty of wreckers out there selling the part at a decent price, you just have to be patient. Only downside I've found is that if you autocross, the manifold pushes you out of DS or STX and into ASP. Doh!

price alone on this tool kills all other options out there. There is more functionality too. you can data log without taking a laptop with you. Most users would probably just use the off the shelf tunes that would come with it but there will be competent people out there who can custom tune according to your specs. seems ultra promising. It's not tied to any one company either so anyone with know how can tune your car.
As for the DISA manifold. I found mine on ebay. You have to search for the 328i as well because the n51 engine available in certain states came equipped with the manifold and the seller may not know any better. Thats how I got mine. I have two of them right now. one that came stock with my n52b25 and one from an n51 that I want to compare to to see why part numbers are different. Keep searching and as stated above, most non disa equipped drivers love the mod. |

When does it hit market? Interested. I have a local
Tuner up here who is very skilled and I'd love to see what he could do with some open flash software. Retard timing and lean it out, kill the fuel cut, ditch emissions. Off the shelf one off tunes suck usually. |

well, I saw posts from the n55 people saying vishnu spends most of their time on the n54. I hope we didn't get lost in the sauce. I get it, that community is more active and willing to drop more money but we are dying for something affordable and quality.

Not that I mind more options, but you already have AA for cheap and Evolve for quality.

AA is still around $600-$700. The functionality compared to Evolve is limited. Evolve is close to $1000 and has most of what one could want. Just a lot more expensive. This seems like a good all around option but fast, cheap and quality hardly ever coincide.

I would say most things are like wheels. In a good wheel you can pick two of the three wheel qualities; cheap, strong, or light. Bad wheels get one or none.

Strong and cheap or light and cheap depending on the wheel pattern. They are good wheels from good people.
