I've just put a K&N and it has a noticeable, slightly more aggressive sound. Amazon has the best price.

They are all the same....they only thing different is the name. Just stick with OEM and you won't fail. You are wasting money and gaining nothing from it.

To piggy back on what STi said, from my understanding 08-2010 models benefit more so from the drop in air filter due to the fact that they’re more restricted. On the 2011 and up there’s not much to be gained from a drop in filter other than sound.

aftermarket air filters sound louder and IMO better. noticeably more induction growl above 3500 rpm. maybe they make 3-5 whp but who cares?

I have AA green and like it a lot. good mod, and good value

You won't gain much if any performance improvement with just a drop-in filter. However you will note a louder intake sound.

I don't understand why '08 - '10 model years benefit more from an after market filter as the intake system is identical to all M3 my's.

Oh, I use an aFe filter. I've also used K&N. Don't think there's much difference between them.

The early OEM US filters have a very restrictive charcoal liner embedded in the media. MY11+ has since switched to the EU filters, which are paper media.

Def AA green filter, don't listen to the haters who say its a useless upgrade. You won't get any major power but the sound is delicious. Like it's gargling babies blood @ 3k rpm, totally awesome upgrade.

Don't waste your time on a whole intake system though, the stock is great. Just get a drop in and you'll be happy.
