X5 impression from IAA (from E70 owner)
Last Saturday I took a flight down to Frankfurt from Sweden to visit IAA and to check out the new X5
In the cab from the airport I saw something new in the traffic. It was something black and I couldn’t really make out what is was. When we passed it I saw it was the new X5. The round BMW badge on the trunk was taped over and I think that’s why I couldn’t clearly see what it was. I really like the look of it. It looks a lot better irl than in the pictures. The BMW stand was amazing. It had a lot of space and a lot of cars to look at. The track built inside was amazing. Cars were driving on it all the time. At one time there were a M5, M6 Coupe and a M6 GC out on the track pushing it kinda hard. The sound from the 3 cars were spectacular. Most of the time there were a lot of i3 and a blue i8 driving around. X5 There was a white X5 M50D on display that I spent some time looking at. There was also a couple of 50i on display in brown and carbon black. Here are my first impressions of the new X5 and I am surprised about a couple of things. Exterior. There was quite a lot of people there so it was kinda hard to get a full look of the whole car. You could only be close and look at the details. The M-sport trim is amazing. The regular X5 look dull. My brother thought a X5 25d was an X3. Wheels. The 20” wheels on the M50D was really good looking. I never liked them in the pictures but in real life they were outstanding. I only liked one other wheel on display and that was the standard 20” wheel from the M-sport pack. Interior. Wow. The M-sport interior with the full leather dash was outstanding. The E70 doesn’t even come close. My E70 actually feels old now. It feels a lot more luxury. It felt as if I could lower the driver’s seat more than in the E70. I actually think I got a much better driving position. It felt sportier. iDrive. It’s been a lot people calling it an iPad screen. I have to agree, not because it stands up from the dash (I actually like that design) but because it has such a nice picture, almost like an apple retina display. It actually make the iDrive display in the E70 look like it is from the 90s and I have en LCI E70 and it’s not even close. 3rd row seats. I might be fooled by the fact that the X5 with a 3rd row seat had a light colored interior and my E70 has black interior but my feeling is that the 3rd row has more space. It felt as if you tilt the back seat forward it is the same size and when you slide the backseat forward you gain space compared to the E70. I don’t know if it is actually more spacious but it felt like it. Overall impression. I’m surprised. I wasn’t expecting it to be such an improvement over the E70. You really need to sit down in the car and feel it. I will definitely replace my E70 with an F15. I’m aiming for a M50D but it might be too pricy. Here is a short recording I did of the X5 show. 4-series. I have owned a 335 Coupe and the 435 is a big step forward but I am somewhat disappointed. It need M-sport because the front isn’t goodlooking in real life. It’s too bad it is so similar to the F30. I think it would have been better if it had differentiated from the 3-series the same way a 5 and a 6 are different. I do like it with M performance parts though. i3 This is a car BMW will sell a ton of in Europe. It’s brilliant. It was kinda hard to get close to them. A lot of interested people wanting to check it out. i8 I had low expectations on the i8. I never thought it could be a good looking car when looking at the mules and the concept wasn’t that great. But the blue one driving around was nice and the black one on display was outstanding. Such a beautiful car. I want one, I need one. The strange thing is that I thought the white and the silver ones on display were really ugly. The color really makes this car Some miscellaneous pictures

very cool!
I'll just be sure to avoid looking closely at the F15s for now. And if I see an M50d, I'll just have to remind myself how much less I paid for my CPO E70 50i. |
