2months old MPE has cracked open on both sides

So short story, I bought my MPE in June from Tisher, had an excellent price and service, and thought I also had an excellent exhaust!!

Started to ear a vibration between 2000 and 3000rpm in first gear a week ago, I thought it was a loose bolt or something so i went to the muffler shop who installed it on my car and to our big surprise the muffler was craked on both sides at the same place and in the same maner. I guess it is safe to say that it's a weakness on these mufflers!

I knew that inconel was really tin on the MPE but never I would've thought that it could cause something like this! This exhaust is by far the most expensive I ever bought and it seems like it's not better then any other! Anyway I just sent those pictures to Tisher and I'll see what will happen from there, I'm confident they'll continue to offer me a great service like before!

Is there anyone else who had this issue with the same exhaust, let me know what you think about it!? Here are some pictures of both cracks on both sides, you can see that it cracked in a T shape at the same place on both side!!

I've had mine for over 2 yrs w/o any issues. Yeah, due to the strength of Inconel they can go thinner and shave some weight. I haven't heard of any MPE's popping/cracking like this. Did it take a hit possibly? I'm sure Tischer will take care of you. I got mine from them also.

No, no hit at all, the exhaust still looks brand new, no scratchs nothing!! I already got some news from Tisher and it seems like I will have to go to the closest US BMW dealership to have them take a look at it to have it replace under warranty! I'll see if it would not be easier to just weld it since I live in Canada and the closest dealership is 400km away!

You live in Gatineau and think the closest dealership is 400 kms away There are 2 dealerships in Ottawa which is less than 20 minutes away!

No, the closest US dealership, since I bought my exhaust from Tisher in the US, I need to deal with BMWUSA for warranty coverage!

I would still check with a local dealer if it can be warrantied before having to deal with a US dealer & shipping.

Damn that sucks! My suggestion OP talk to BMWNA and see if they can handle it through your nearest dealer. At least try

2nd Photo looks like there is a scrap. But still doesn't explain why it would crack open.

Does BMW provide any warranty on M Performance Parts ?

No, there's no scratch or any damage under the exhaust, it's only dirt and smoke that came out from the cracks!

Yes there is a 2 years warranty on the exhaust, hopefully it wont be a hassle to make them respect it!! I'm a bit afraid since it seems like it's not a common issue like I first thought!

Wow, quite surprising given how strong Inconel purportedly is. My sense is BMW would cover this right away if there was a mfg quality flaw, as they advertise one the benefits of the MPE being a 2 year warranty.

For what they charge for this, I would expect it to outlast the car and your house

Unless of course the OP rashed it.
Don't worry, I did'nt rashed it to use your expression! I'll take better pictures to show everyone but what you see on these two pictures are cracks that are about the same lenght and are exactly in the same spot but at the two opposite sides of the muffler, and like I said before, there's is absolutly no other damage on this exhaust except for those cracks, it clearly would've been impossible for me to hit something that would've cause those and nothing else!

But I understand the sceptisism, that's why I'll make sure to take better pictures to show you all what I'm talking about!

No skepticism on my part, OP. Just disappointed for you, especially @ that price.

I am sure they'll (better) put a new one or fix it to your satisfaction. This is an outrageously expensive part with a warranty not some furnace steel pipe from a flea market.

Dont worry, they will replace it with a new exhaust, when I had the MPE exhaust I got it replaced under warranty due to a peeling problem inside the tips (black paint inside the tips was peeling off) your case is much easier to claim a warranty than a simple paint peeling issue like mine was, although I bought my exhaust at a BMW dealer in Cali I took it to a local BMW dealer and they honored the warranty

Your local BMW dealer will be able to warranty it. It's BMWNorthAmerica after all, not BMWUSA or BMWCAN. That sucks pretty hard bro, the MPE is so $$$$ I'd expect it to be perfect all the time forever.
