I hit a bump on the freeway and....
It hurt me more than it hurt the car ]:
So I was going about 60mph on an entrance to a freeway and I hit a huge ass bump that was very uncalled for and it sounded like my wheels fell off *exaggeration*... really pissed me off because they are always doing roadwork on that street and there's a shitload of potholes and shitty ass bumps for no reason.. I also found out that a friend of a friend who had a dropped toyota celica had ripped off his lip/front bumper on the same exact bump... Could there be permanent damage on my 135i from hitting a bump?? Like a bent suspension or anything of that sort? (It was not my fault at all, no signs saying there was a bump it was just a patch where road work was being done) PSA to SoCal: Beware of this bump!! It's on 7th street freeway entrance heading towards 405S/605N. |

I would check your wheels, tires, and the suspension the next time you can. Listen for anything that sounds bad while you're driving.

FYI if you take the 405 north and exit Wilshire (new ramp) it drops off and you can catch air if you don't know it's there and slow down. |

To the OP - if you have the runflats, that will make it feel 10x worse, but you may want to check your tires for potential bulges as that's the most likely or at least most obvious sign of damage from a major bump on the runflats. |

ouch that sucks. a couple of years ago I hit an 'exposed pothole' in Brooklyn which broke my TT's subframe.....literally bent it and tore one of the braces right off it. so you can cause a lot of damage

I just stay out of cities with my car in general, their roads are always awful. I've often thought the ideal city car would be a small pickup truck like an earlier Toyota Hilux/Tacoma.

Check wheels, see if tires are keeping air over next few days, see if the car pulls to any side. Else you should be fine.

I hit a pothole deep enough to break a rim last year. Luckily I didn't have any other damage to the car, but I think it's worth paying 50$ to have it checked by BMW.

I assume you're still on the stock RFTs. One of the main reasons I switched to non-RFT was that dreaded impact from hitting even a small pothole at speed, feels much worse than it should. I'd check for sidewall bubbles on the front tires.

Wheels, tires and alignment are suspect when hitting bumps. Other than that unless there is road impact like your friend then there is nothing else to worry about.
