add throttle blipping programmatically?

That idea crossed my mind while reading the specs for the new M3/M4.
On some cars it can be disabled.

Unfortunately there is no easy way to do this. It's not a feature built into the previous generation control units.

Is programmatically a word? Not sure what is being attempted here.

Agreed. Downshifting, especially under heavy braking, should be challenging and rewarding. If you want it done for you get the DCT.

Yeah it's a word. It is a computer term .
One of the features of the incoming M is throttle blipping hence the trigger for the thought which lead to that question. I thought it would be a cool gimmick to include in a tune.

I am a 6MT guy and the challenge of a good blip or rev match livens up a boring drive to the grocery store.

However, I often want that to hear that perfect back to back blip. The sharp crisp kind that goes
WAP, WAP instead of wwWWAaap - wait for it - wwWWAaap.

Blipping with the M button on produces a sharper attack and release like DCT.

Debatable! Whether my M button is on or not, it doesn't matter. The throttle seetings are the same for me.

I do not believe there is any way to get the 6MT gearshift position from the CANBUS, if you could, you could program the rest.

Typically end user response who has no idea how things are done.

They think yea it's software so you can do anything, including reading their minds....

Pretty sure the throttle blip feature is more than just coding. There are likely a sensors at the shifter gate to sense which gear is being selected and when it is selected.

On another note, I think this is a cool feature as long as it can be disabled. I can rev match downshift just fine but cant heel-toe. This feature combines the best aspects of an automatic and a manual.

Thanks, when first read it thought it was a made up or misspelled word. Looked it up. Do know about throttle blip on some cars, past dct, new vette and such. Sounds cool when I've heard it and would be something I would use but would like it to be be defeatable unlike the 370z version.

It makes sense on DCT. Rev matching and heel/toe downshifting is what makes driving a manual fun. If they take that away from me I'd rather just get DCT.
