M4 vs a Boat and a?????
Ok so two weeks ago I was convinced I was getting the M4 but I found a great deal on a new boat. I have now allotted half my $80k to a 2013 Regal 2300 Bowrider thus placing a budget around $40k for the car. This is my first new boat purchase (it was a leftover) with a price drop from $78k to $53k so how could I not? Having a lakehouse I use the boat! So the question is what to replace the 911 and S2000 with.... Here are my options (keep in mind I have a new F150 w 4 doors that is loaded so it works as a great daily driver).
Option 1----$40k budget for a new ride this summer. But I sell my S2000 and 911 now. Option 2----$60k budget for a new ride next summer and I keep my S2000 thru the summer. What would you do? I am leaning towards waiting a year but as a guy with a Manheim password and an addictions to looking at ebay motors I'm f'd...

im confused, why would you sell the s2000 and 911? and why, if you sold them, would you spend less now?
what type of car are you looking for? I don't think the m4 is a smart choice as a second car anyway, id rather have something more focused. for 40k I would get a z06. for 60k I would probably wait and save until I could get a 997 gt3

Option 3----more than $60 budget for a new ride next summer and sell the S2000. You won't need the Honda if you get the M4. Better yet get the M4 convertible to replace S2000 and 911 !!!!

Kenny I agree with you that I think I want someone "more focused" but I don't think I can honestly ever see myself putting out more than $80k for a car. I loved my two M3's and it was the car I dreamed of when I was in college so I always find myself going back to it. So the question is can I get something more focused now for $40k or lets say in a year for $60k-$70k that really is that much MORE car? You guys can just get me committed I am good with that. Also I find the M posters are way more engaging and entertaining that most car forums which is why I am even posting it here. In the event people start to get annoyed its because I value your motorminds.....

First World problems!
The happiest 2 days in a boat owners life: the day he buys it. The day he sells it. Just like R V's and mattresses, there is always a sale on boats. Get the M4 and keep watching the classifieds for an even deeper discount on a boat. |

and yes, I would wait for either A ) a 997 gt3 which sells for around 70-75k right now or B ) a 991s which sells for around 80k right now, but will drop with the LCI cars coming out late this year the 991s was the best car ive ever driven and is perfect for a second car.

Take up fishing as a hobby, you'll save the M3 money in no time by catching your own food!
I understand how your mind works, I have a tendency to over compartmentalize. I file money under something, let's say buying a car, and even if the world goes mad, the money stays in that section. Freaky shit, but I ques it's better than overspending. If i need alone time, I just try to have a long talk about funds and about certain aspects of our money usage, and the house will be empty in two seconds! |

Small boats are ok to own, especially if you live on the lake, but when you are talking about yachts, then it is true - renting is the way to go.

Tell me you got this color scheme?
I would hold off for now on purchasing anything with 40K. The search is the fun part. There will always be newer and better out there so just sit back and enjoy the boat and s200 this summer. The 991 next year sounds like a nice addition. Also, Z4is have dropped in price tremendously and you can pick up a nice preowned one for 30-40K. |

I went cheap and skipped the power tower.... Mine is a black hull with a dark grey stripe. I just couldn't see spending the extra $6k for essentially just the tower but it looks so hot.

Picking up the boat in two weeks! Just like going with a load F150 FX vs a Raptor I am sure when I see the boats w the power tower, I will have tower envy. I have decided to hold off selling the 911 and the S2000 for now. The S2000 is money in the bank and I figure the depreciation on the 911 won't be a ton over the next 6 months vs the fun I will have....

The yellow and black boat pictured would have been $12k more than mine I bet.

I find this very amusing. I bought a house on a lake where the lake is just small enough that I couldn't put a boat in it. I never, ever want to own a boat, but I know one day I would eventually convince myself that I needed one. Then 5 days after putting it in the water I'd realize what a grave error in judgement I had made being stuck with a $100K boat. This is how my mind works. I wish you luck my friend.

The boat looks great.
I bought a turbo Honda jet ski for 12K in 2005 and still have a great time with it. I can use it to cruise around and drive to my friends who have boats. Best of both worlds without the crazy costs of boat ownership. |

My lake is 12 miles long and I am on the river that feeds the lake so for me to really enjoy the lake I have a 10 minute boat ride to "open water". I just looked at my old boat and last summer I put 50 hours on the boat (which I am told for a weekend boat is a ton). I've owned a bassboat since 2002 and then got my Caravelle last year but it was just too light . I still love cars but for me there is a ton of enjoyment getting to my lakehouse at 6pm on a Friday, driving the boat to a restaurant and then navigating back in pitch black with my Iphone! I hear more nightmare stories of boats than positive so I know I am in the minority....

300HP Volvo- Speed limit on my lake is 48mph. I think this will do about 50mph so no tickets!
