Wind Noise
Just got the Space Grey/ Mocca Nappa 5.0 last week. I haunt taken any photos yet.
I hear an annoying wind noise coming from the drivers door, just behind my left ear. Anyone else have this issue. The door seals seem to be correctly in place. There is no air leakage, just an annoying noise??? |

I have wind noise in the same spot and took it to the dealer when I first got it and after two days of road testing they came back to me with that's just how it is lol! I'm laughing but it's a major annoyance in a $80k+ suv. I'll take it to a different dealer when I get some free time.

I have the same issue with our X5. I noticed it immediately on the way home from the dealer after picking the car up two weeks ago. I was planning on having it looked at by the service department. It's quite loud - especially at highway speeds.

I got the same "it is normal" answer, plus "it was the tire noise" when I only have 1500 miles on it.

i agree that there is still a bit of wind noise...but having driven a F10 for a couple of years, I can tell you that it is substantially quieter than the F10...

...I'd say its not normal.
2 weeks ago we tested two F15's to decide between diesel vs gas. The 35 had >800 miles on it and sounded as quite as a mouse. The diesel on the otherhand had that anoying wind noise as described. we thought it was an unclosed door/window... in the end I was blown away by the torque to even care/remember. Then I saw treads about the faulty gasket between the doors so I chalked it up to that... If you guys are saying there is no problem with the door gaskets then there is definately something else going on. (the diesel had <100 miles on it as tested). Keep us posted with any developments. |

Having been doing quite a bit of research into the F15 since ordering mine a few weeks back I'm fairly sure I remember reading about wind noise being a recognised issue which was due to be fixed in April production onwards. I can't remember exactly where I saw it though.
Does anyone have access to BMW bulletins for the F15 to check this? |

I had the wind leakage behind the drivers left ear on my 40d. It was quite bad at speeds above 130 km/h. Dealer had no idea, they opened a puma case and started replacing all seals on the drivers door. They have one more seal to replace (the one on the body not the door itself) since they forgot to order it the first time. But now the issue is gone...so definitely a seal issue. That coupled with the drivetrain malfunction and the wrong kidney grills makes me a very bored man. I should have known better than to order during the first year of production. I will never make that mistake again.

This is a sign from Europe ....
I currently own a brand new X5, delivered end of February. 5 minutes after I left the dealer, I noticed this stupid wind noise on the driver window side. 1st visit back to the dealer : Try to fix the door alignement, result=0 2nd visit to the dealer : Try to change all seals from the door and the window, result=0 The only way I found was to put tape all around the window. Then everything is solved. In my opinion, the problem is coming from a window too thin, or a gasket gap too large. I will keep you posted. Francois from Paris, France |

^^ you must all insist your BMW dealer raises a puma case with BMW. Dealers must follow SIBs to fix issues. They are not authorized to throw parts at a issue unless authorized. Unless BMW hear from multiple customers of a issue then it won't be addressed unless they find it themselves ... Or they simply haven't acknowledged its a priority.

There was a thread concerning the same problem in a french forum few weeks ago. One temporary solution was to insert a small piece of plastic (like a credit card) in the top right angle of the window (inside the car). The guy posted a photo, I'll check if I can find it again.

Richard,
I can send you some pcs of this nice tape. I can buy it from any Gas station on the highway in France. Just let me know when your window will start to whistle ... Free delivery, of course. That's customer service. |
