Motor surges and response from SA

So a while back the motor starts surging/misfiring. I replace plugs (yes dealer version) and coils. Alas, surging still there.

So today I took it to the dealer fully expecting an HPFP and/or injector issue. Instead they call and tell me that they recoded the "adaptations" and all is fine now.

Hmm....in all the time I have been on this site I've never heard such a thing.

They told me to drive it and see how it goes. I will report some more later.

In the meantime I am curios what everyone has to say.

Supposedly the ECU "learns" how you drive and adjusts its input accordingly.

You can reset the adaptive capability of the ECU to make it like you've never driven the car before. Perhaps that's what they did.

Let us know if what they did fixed your problem.

Like Ian said, if you put the key in and press the start button (no clutch) to turn the accessories on, and hold your foot down on the gas pedal for approximately 30 seconds it will (allegedly) reset the adaptation settings of the ECU.

I did it, but I couldn't really tell a difference, but I drive like an idiot so the computer couldn't figure me out anyway.

Also, I think if you turn on ignition and hold gas pedal to the floor for >30 secs it will reset

Report:

So far I've driven approximately 50 miles and it seems fine.

As far as I know the gas pedal DIY does not clear all adaptations. I tried it prior and it did not solve any issues I was having.

Check out SIB12 09 12. That took care of my surging issues.

I think that SIB is for N55. Mine is N54. I will go back and read the service ticket closely.

No SIB performed on my car. So far the surges seem to have been resolved.

Well after a month the surges are back. I am at a total loss of what to do next. I get this wierd feeling that tha car is just going to die one of these days.

Took it to two other shops and in both cases no codes.
