USB file for DVD in Motion

So I just used the usb stick for the first time to play an .avi file 1080p of the pilot for the show Resurrection. I put a .flv file on it as well, and it only recognized the .avi. I know it plays .mkv (because they are similar to .avi files). I'm guessing .wmv files will not play. I'll test more later. Right now, I want to throw this out to all the coders. Is this the maximum resolution the video can play? I was hoping the video being 1080p would fill the whole LCD - I did full screen and get this:

You can also choose split screen option from the right side menu and it will show whatever info in 1/3 view on the right side and the movie will be 2/3 view on the left side - so both screens will fill out the whole LCD. Any input/advice/coding help is appreciated!

Looks like I answered my own question by doing some research and thanks r33 for pointing out the aspect ration being 16:9. So basically 1080p above looks like that. Their aspect ration is around 1.78:1 and 1.85:1. Bluray aspect rations go to 2.39:1 and 2.40:1 - therefore, they fill the screen much better. Here's an example of a guy with an F10 who has a bunch of random movies that he is playing- if you pay close attention, you will realize the higher quality dvd/movie files are bluray or resolution higher than 16:9.

During playback, hit options and then more settings (something like that) and then hit zoom. Should fill the screen a bit.

Is this a file you can share and anyone can load via any USB stick?

Blu-ray resolution is 1920x1080, which corresponds to an aspect ratio of 16:9. However, many movies are shot in or near 2.40:1. To fit this on the Blu-ray format, black pixels are used at the top and bottom of the 16:9 picture. In order to fill the screen you would need to zoom the image but the image is still technically 16:9.
