New kid on the block

Hey guys, I'm coming from a 2006 330xi and buying a 2011 135i tomorrow, space grey, sport package, mtech, all the goodies. I'm aware of the vanos recall and will make sure that is mentioned, and also the car has 48*** on it so I'm going to mention to them about walnut blasting or they better give me a good price off for the recall and walnut blasting. Anything else I should worry about? I'm going to be looking for an leaks coming from the valve cover, head, and oil and tranny gaskets and rear main seal. Check the pulley tensioner and belt, Waste gate rattle, misfires, coil packs, pretty much I am picking this car apart. Anything else I should look for? The car has remaining factory warranty and I'm purchasing a good after market warranty. Sorry this is so long, any input would be appreciated

Well since your being stick with them on the Vanos bolts id ask about the High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP). They tend to randomly die on the 1 series and it's not a cheap fix. With 48*** theres a chance your car could have already had a failure and had it replaced. Im currently at 30*** and so far i'am still lucky to not had this problem. (knock on wood)

I thought most of those issues were resolved on the N55 platform? I'm at 50k and mine still works great <<knocks on wood>>

From what I have read it still can happen. Not as common as the n54 but theres still a chance.

The car comes with a year of the factory warranty left, should I wait till it goes or have it replaced before the warranty expires?

They won't replace it unless it fails. Unfortunately you can't just roll in there and be like "Replace my HPFP." (I wish you could.)

I would see if you could persuade them into doing it for you since it's a known and common issue.

Factory warranty is 4yrs/50k miles so you've only got 2k miles till you don't have a warranty anymore unless its CPO

Not sure about the N55 but on the N54 they extended the warranty on the HPFP to 10 years 120k. I just had mine replace AGAIN at 75k.
