Fuel contamination.

My x5 is broken because of a stupid gas pump. I filled gas when the tank was almost empty and the truck stopped a mile later. It took 5 hours for BMW assist to send someone to tow the truck. The service center found contamination in the fuel and send me an estimate for $7600 and said it's not covered under warranty. The service advisor said they smell diesel but they are not sure.
Luckily my insurance stepped in and agreed to cover the repairs. I went back to the gas station and checked the pump to make sure I wasn't crazy and it's a gas pump. Also confirmed by the attendant. I'm so at the gas station.

So sorry. That has to be very aggravating! Was there diesel fuel mixed with the gasoline? If so others would have had the same issue I would think.

It seems as though the gas station bears some financial responsibility.

WOW!!!!! That is really bad!!! Sorry to hear about your problem. Did you go to a different gas station than you are used to? If I were you I would go there now and fill a container with the same "gas" and keep it just in case. Take pictures and make sure you have a receipt. I only fill my tank at the Costco gas station close to my house. They do not have diesel pumps there and always have the best price. BTW, what insurance company you have for your car? Never heard they would cover for such problem. I am happy they did.

The service advisor is saying they think there is diesel mix but not sure. They think it smells like diesel. I will have spend money to get it tested. He said its contaminated. The insurance adjuster agreed on the contamination..

Yes, I always stop at this gas station just for the dunkin coffee but never really filled up gas.. I always use the shell station by my house. I have Allstate and it falls under comprehensive coverage. The insurance adjuster approved the repairs but ask them to reuse the injector if they can. Will upload a copy of estimate

Wait a minute.... $7600? Drain the tank and flush the fuel system and change a filter costs $7600? What kind of world are we living in?

I think you're right. I'm curious what that damage could be.

Why does this fall on your insurance and not the gas station that sold you bad gas?

I am really sorry to hear this. What gas station is it? I will make sure I will never go there after I get my X5.

Its good that Allstate is covering it for you.

Hope you get out of this mess soon

Apparently it was covered under comprehensive coverage. I had no clue but the service advisor asked me check with insurance and sure enough, they got involved right away. I can take it up with the tax station if I get a lawyer involved I guess.

It's amazing how the estimate dropped from $7600 to $2700 once the insurance adjuster reviewed it. They are going to reuse the injectors.

If your petrol (gas) was contaminated with diesel you cannot be the only one that filled up from that pump. Obvious question, but other motorists would have experienced the same problem as you.
Would help your case for compensation/redress.

Saying that there might be diesel in the gas is like a doctor telling a woman she might be pregnant for putting on weight but "they are not sure". Should be pretty easy to figure out if there was diesel in the gas

Except only one of those two scenarios will get you slapped in the face if you're wrong
