That said, the car has been bulletproof for over 1 year now since my last fix. Also the VW diesels are legal and will be legal. There's already a settlement for the I-5 diesels, current owners of the V6 diesels will get a pretty hefty check from VW, likely around $7k-$10k. So most people are holding on to them until the passing of the record date for settlement.

Sheesh, at least Lexus styling isn't yawn-inducing. I'm still on the fence about the Lexus aesthetic, but they are bold. Definitely don't think of "bold" and BMW in the same phrase. Current BMW's are safe, signal affluence while remaining inoffensive. Guess the current design language is simply bland.

As for chassis engineering it's hard to argue against what porsche, alfa, and GM have done as of late. As I mentioned in my previous post, the steering feel on BMWs have been embarrassing. EPS can only be blamed so much. My s2000 had significantly better feel and rolled off the assembly line 14 years ago. Shockingly (pun somewhat intended), my current i3 has better steering feel than my 2er. Last edited by pz619; 09-05-2017 at 05:49 PM.. |

Now as far as the coverage for the CPO goes, MB offer up to 6 years / unlimited miles, Audi offer, up to 6 years / 100K miles, Lexus offer up to 6 years and unlimited miles, so BMW's up to 7 years / unlimited miles new CPO offering isn't that different. They still offer up to 3 years of CPO, but now the dealers are choosing the 1 year CPO prog to keep the cost down. |

I really don't like where this is going...too many changes they better be working on something. It's definitely getting less appealing.
but where to go???

Well,..this could only mean one of two things,...either the reliability is getting better BMWs,...or it's getting worst! Either way,...drive the heck out of it! Get your money's worth!

Most dealers don't CPO M cars anyway so if you were considering an M nothing's really changed. The extended warranty is a better deal anyway since you can choose coverage terms and get a prorated refund if you punt the car. Only time CPO matters is if the packaged it with a finance promo. CPO was more about creating a new car experience with a used car purchase. They probably lost enough money with CPO over the years they would rather use those dollars to amp up new car sales and leases since used cars doesn't move metal out of the factories.

When all other car companies, domestic or not, seem to be extending warranties and providing up to 10 years, they are shortening it. Unreal. |

That's not good business. We'll see how the residuals drop after leases are up. Yikes!

When my 4 yr old 22k miles Boxster, bought new, needed a complete new engine (IMS) Porsche stood up and told me to take a hike. Never set foot in a Porsche dealer again. Never will. YMMV.

4-yr/50k free maintenances and 2-yr/100k CPOs have been carrots to hook some among family and friends to stay in bimmers. The new round of car purchase for these folks may head to other brands.
What is the best warranty/maintenance program these days? The best deal in past few years was 2012-2013(?) Volvo summer sales, which came with 6-yr/60k new car warranty + maintenance(which includes brakes and wiper blades at the time). Which brand can beat that deal these days? |
