Just installed the black M Badges today. I find they look muuuuuch better than the chrome badges with the M Sport pack and extended shadowline

If anyone is on the fence about it, here are some photos :)

Totally appreciate this as I was on the fence.

How did you find/calculate the dimensions to place them? Where did you purchase from?

The car already comes with the chrome badges so placing them in the correct location was easy.

I first used masking tape to surround the badge to mark the exact location for the new badge (photo example below as I forgot to take any photos of the process), then used fishing line to remove the old badge. It was a very hot day, so it was very easy to remove. You can also use a hair dryer to warm up the tape under the badge to make removal easier. I didn’t need to do that. Wipe the area with a mix of 50/50 isopropyl alcohol and water. Then simply stick on the new badges :)

If you have an x-line trim, I personally wouldn’t put any badge, but if you really want them, I think the chrome badges would look better with the x-line trim

I am actually considering this! But first I will order the new 872 M Y-spoke wheels in time for winter tire change :happyanim: (same wheels that are now optional with the X1 M35i)

They look cool 😎 By the way always meant to ask, how easy is it to take off the back model emgine spec badge? A diy job or is it easy to take paint off doing it?

Same procedure as the m badge! Very easy and done within 1-5 mins. Some people polish the area afterwards, but if you heat the badge or do it on a hot sunny day, the sticky material comes off very easily and no polish is needed. There are many YouTube videos showing this. Nothing to worry about, and most definitely a DIY job

Pretty much how I did mine. Used Goo Gone for the little bit of the adhesive that didn't come off, but just wiped it off and wiped with alcohol afterwards. This was before I had the car ceramic coated though, that way I didn't have a spot where there was coating missing.

I ordered mine via Amazon from a German dealer that sells original BMW accesories and parts. Not sure if they ship worldwide, but here’s the link:

At the request of richiro's user avatarrichiro, here are the measurements for badge placement:

US spec vehicles do not have them

I love them and I bought a pair before my X1 even arrived. Im just scared to scratch the matte paint removing the old ones. Dont know what to use to remove the glue that wont cause damage to the matte finish. Dope look though. I really want to find an m badge that will hook on to my mpack grill as well.

Ok thanks for that info. I don’t assume that because I’m the only American on the block/neighborhood my car would be so different… mainly because a few of my German neighbors wondered why mine are missing (there’s a number of guys where I live that have Beemers and two of them have ‘Sport’ packages, 5 total have the badges faking it or modded the cars, but mine is the only one that’s an M type and the newest yet I don’t have the side markers.

Canadian X1 M35i come with those M badges. (at least the ones I saw in at Ontario BMW dealers) Interesting that people are always happy or unhappy about what they get(or not get). I saw a video of a Canadian X1 M35i owner who posted a video about how to debadge. He removed those M badges with dental floss. Then we have X1 M35i owners here in the US who want to know where to buy those M badges.

I think the last thing the car needs is more M badges. I’m sure I’ll miss something, but my 2025 X2 M35i already came from the factory with has them on the brake calipers, the wheels, the front grille, the engine cover, the back of the car, the pathway lighting, the display on the dash, and the one on the steering wheel. If I had opted for the one piece seats, that would have added 2 more.

I did add the M sill plates on my car because I didn’t like the generic black and silver BMW ones and I don’t necessarily trust that aftermarket ones would be the correct size and thickness as to cause problems with the seal of the door.

I removed the rear and side (fender) badges; as above, there is branding on the wheels, sills, all four seats, steering wheel and dashboard, and sorry to say, our X1 is absolutely not an M car, it's a front wheel drive biased all wheel drive hybrid weighing 1900kg (which is an absolute shitload of lbs for the smallest SUV in the product range).

It is odd how the M badges on BMWs are seen differently across the world.

Here in the UK... for as long as I can remember, an M badge on a wing (fender) means it's at least an M Sport car (not M Performance, not M). SE's or Sport or X-line for example didn't come with wing M badges. It was only when you selected the M Sport model you got the badges, or the M Sport upgrade option. A huge number of buyers (in the UK for all types of BMWs) select the lowest engine model in the range but they tick the M Sport option as they like the styling… and having a wing M badge.

Again, here in the UK... M badges on the boot (trunk) are only added to M Performance (E.g X1 M35i, M340i, M40i, M135, X3 M50) ...or... real M cars (M2, M3, M4, M5, X5M).

J.

PS. If anyone wants to add badges or de-badge, that's fine by me. Life’s too short to worry about badges. However... I do like the black M badges.
